If you're me, you aren't satisfied with borrowing and watching (and
maybe buying) a movie, no, you can't stop thinking about it in many different
angles. Watching a movie all closely and making notes on mistakes is one
part, but there is still another. Thinking about the characters, why they
did act so then and then, and why they are who they are, how they "interact"
with another. Checking the lines on hidden messages related with the entire
story. That's mostly the way I watch movies so I can get deeper into the
story and its words of wisdom. And that's also one reason why I like animated
movies. I mean, the characters, the entire way they fitted out their mind,
including their design, too, is developed by animators. And so they can
barely tell and provoke what the audience should think about this or that.
You love this one, you love to hate that. Or other way around. So, checking
the characters closely is a good help to understand the whole film. I make
notes in my mind on expressions, music, reactions, happenings, and if I
get caught by a movie, I really get caught.
One other very important thing is thinking how much the movie meant
to you! Personally, Hercules meant alot to me. A very lot.
You can see on the first sight that it's the most popcultural one,
with the most comedy and funny parodies (even on other Disney Movies!)
The drawing style was a striking combination of round and angular forms,
giving it a little touch of a grecian vase epos. Some people (Category:
People who love to put critic on film wherever they can. Really annoying
kind.) did say it was trash and too much gags and such, and there wasn't
the usual Disney Magic. How_stupid_can_people_be??!!
I loved the film, loved, loved, and nothing but loved it. Seeing in
the angle of humour, you'll agree with me, it is possibly the best Disney
feature ever. Where do I start? Mmmh...I watched the film for the first
time taking care of two little boys, buddies of mine and Disney fans as
well. From the first moment on, with those five (five!) cool muses, singing
a great gospel song about thruth, and then the first vista on Mount Olympus,
showing up all those gods..the film got me. It had humour, romance, thrilling,
magic, an unique story, extraordinary songs, adorable characters.....and
magic. A magic you're fullfilled with watching the movie, magic about a
common anti-hero suffering from strenght, and meeting his love. A wise message
about being a hero, and being yourself.
There's another thing. You know evernotice.com? Awesome-wonderful site.
Showing up relations and mistakes that you might haven't noticed after
watching a disney film. But on Hercules it was a dissapointment.
You know, I'm very interested in history. Greece, Egypt, Rome...all
the way. Really. I suppose I know stuff about grecian gods and legends.
The people on evernotice.com seem to do, too. And they make use of it.
Horrible! Whenever they can put it, they do critic on Hercules for being
so different from the saga. Every nit-picky thing. What can I say? I say:
Yes
I know. Yes I know that Hera originally wasn't Herc's mother.
Yes I know that there were actually nine muses and not five (Actually
there is a reason why Disney only showed up five of them, Calliope, Melpomene,
Klio, Terpsichore and Thalia, but I'm not going to tell ya *nanananana!*)
Yes
I know that Disney mixed up different cultures and times (Milo's Venus,
rome numbers, Achhilles, "Hercules" instead of "Heracles" and so on and
on and on.) What can I say about this? I tell ya: NOTHING! *giggle* It's
a Disney feature, for crying out loud, and not a docu. What did you want
to see? Hercules killing Megara and then his father? Antique grecians definitly
had a faible for killing...If you wanna see a monumental drama, watch "Ben
Hur" or something like that, I'm not going to take this lousy discussion
anymore. My point in mixing cultures and times: Disney surely didn't want
to make mistakes, but intentional mixing everything up! They're showing
you figures you all know (Narcissus, Acchilles, Milo's Venus, The Trojans,
Pandora.....) and give them a gag where it can hit and send you into laughing
fits therefore. They loved making parodies in this film, and in fact the
entire movie was a parody on ancient times. I barely know the legend of
Hercu...Heracles, but I could get off for a while and enjoy a new, outstanding,
funny and romantic variety of it without getting nit-picky angry. And I'm
ashamed for all the people who can't do that.
Just enjoy...
